Family Meal Plan (3-7-11)

Sunday is my grocery day, each and every week since January, I have pulled out my $150 grocery budget and went to town; Farmer's Market, grocery store, Target or whatever I needed. Well, not this week. Since I am sharing all the "UPS" to this adventure, it's about time to share one of the downs. I had every intention to go grocery shopping this week (remember I was suppose to be making chicken freezer meals), the problem is that over the course of last week, I used my ATM card just a few too many times and used up that $150 grocery budget (El Torito, Walmart, Target, Vons, Sprouts, Five Guys and Johnny Rockets). Yes, you can say I fell a little off the cliff this week. Now, don't get me wrong, I still have plenty of money left in my account (I think I shared with everyone that doing Financial Peace University, we now have more savings then we have ever had in our entire 12 years of marriage & we actual have an emergency fund and a padding in our checking account), but when you are doing a ZERO balanced budget Dave Ramsey style, then there is NO stealing, borrowing, robbing or trading funds from one budget category to the next. Right? Right!

Okay, so seriously what does all this mean. It means that I am SOOOOO happy I have been stock piling and making freezer meals lately. We are gonna be just FINE, skipping the grocery store for one week, NO PROBLEM. I will have to be a little creative and the kids will probably balk a little here and there. But the entire family is on the Dave Ramsey way of life and WE WILL SURVIVE ONE WEEK. We are "living like no one else, so later we can LIVE LIKE NO ONE ELSE" (Dave Ramsey).

So, now it's time to check out our DELICIOUS meal plan and I will share will you a few tricks... until next Sunday... when it will be GROCERY SHOPPING TIME. Yesterday, I served my girls up a delicious Peanut Butter Breakfast Banana Split (we had one banana left and yogurt in the refrigerator), last night's dinner was G'ma's Simple Spaghetti with Comfort Meatballs (LOVE this recipe from Pioneer Woman). We have atleast a dozen eggs (so my son will love scrambled eggs every morning, since I am out of his favorite cereal), the twins will eat Asparagus & Avocado Omelet (a few avocados left and a bunch of asparagus that MUST be cooked), Monroco for dinner (I always have hamburger meat un-cooked and frozen), Meatloaf & Lemon Pasta (thanks to my freezer day last week, this is already made up and waitin'), the following day a Sweet Omelet (who doesn't have jelly and powdered sugar... I know I do, and my girls LOVE these), then I will do Breakfast for Dinner on Thursday making a new recipe Crunch-Berry Pancakes, on the weekend I have some mashed sweet potatoes in the freezer, just waitin' to be turned into Magic Sweet Potato Muffins, then we'll have my husbands favorite chicken of all time Crock-Pot Catalina Cranberry Chicken (thanks to the frozen chicken breasts I bought on sale a few weeks ago, dirt cheap) and lastly we will top off the weekend with Logan County Patty Melts (pre-made patties I made up last weekend with fresh meat and froze for later, this is another new recipe that I will share soon). And that's how it's done.... without ever leaving the house to go to the grocery store.

That's our Family Meal Plan for this week. I'd love to hear if you have any short cuts, tricks or tips.

Check back and we will link the actual recipe!

  1. I've seen the cataline/cranberry chix recipe b/4, I think it's time I finally try it!! It's going on next weeks menu plan, but I'll use Chix breasts. I KNOW there are always great sales on thighs and legs, but I really don't like the dark meat---buying it and not enjoying it would be a bigger waste of money, IMO anyway =)
